Tenue de Nîmes have released its tenth Journal de Nîmes yesterday: the Five Year Anniversary issue. Among the many highlights of this issue are a portrait of Hancock Vulcanized Articles, an interview with founder of the LA-based Mister Freedom brand Christophe Loiron and a (re-)introduction to the 1970s Chuck Taylor All Star.
Another must-read is an extensive piece in which Tenue de Nîmes provide a glimpse into the life of indigo master Bryan Whitehead at his silk farm in Fujino, Japan. The celebratory edition also features an article on Monitaly, the new brand of Yuketen founder Yuki Matsuda for which he coined a unique description: ‘casual up’. In this journal he explains it is his aim to improve upon a casual garment to achieve elegance and sophistication.
Lastly, the new Journal de Nîmes is proud to present an exclusive preview of the birth of the first Tenue de Nîmes jeans as well as the release of the limited edition, hand-dyed, natural indigo Red Wing boots. The latter will be released at the five year anniversary gathering. During a visit to Kojima in May 2013, Tenue de Nîmes asked the craftsmen at the Japanese factory of Rampuya whether it would be possible to dip-dye leather shoes. The Amsterdam team provided them with five pairs of the Red Wing Moc, made from classic, natural rough-out leather.
The Rampuya team then dyed the boots with different compositions of natural and artificial indigo. Tenue de Nîmes decided that the dark natural indigo dye came out best because of its diverse shades of blue and its natural appearance. Stock of these boots is limited to fifty pairs, that are exclusively available at Tenue de Nîmes in Amsterdam for €299.90.
